Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs

Alcohol and drug treatment programs are easily available all over the United States. In South Florida there are a copious amount of alcohol and drug treatment programs. There are so many drug treatment programs, in fact, that you can have plenty of options on location, the style of accommodations and types of therapy and treatment you want.

Are you seeking alcohol and drug treatment programs? If you are, you’re not alone. My name is Rhea and I’m a recovered alcoholic. I remember being very unsure of what I wanted when I was was seeking a drug treatment program. I had two basic preferences to start within my search to find the right alcohol and drug treatment programs for me. I knew I wanted a residential or long-term treatment program and I knew I wanted it to be 12-step based. Think about what you’d want and write it down. Start with a few basic points that you know you want out of drug treatment. For instance, it could be 12-step based, holistic, IOP or residential. Thinking about the basic necessities you’d prefer will help in your search for the best alcohol and drug treatment program for you.

Most alcohol and drug treatment programs offer a long list of amenities, activities and treatment options. The alcohol and drug treatment program I chose for myself, which was Palm Partners, offered more than I knew I could want out of an alcohol treatment center. Palm Partners as one of the many alcohol and drug treatment programs, offered me relapse prevention, self empowerment, and an alumni program along with H and I meetings. Utilizing the basic foundation of what I knew I needed helped me to find the perfect place for me. I also made sure to do my research about the alcohol and drug treatment programs in the area. South Florida boasts being the recovery capital of the United States so I knew I would have a good chance with almost any alcohol and drug treatment program here but I wanted to find the right fit for me. Palm Partners was the right fit for me.

This is the story of how I did so. If you follow in my footsteps you might just find the same results. Ultimately though, while finding the right alcohol and drug treatment programs was essential to my recovery what keeps me sober today is not the drug treatment center I attended. I stay sober today based on the 12-step program that the alcohol and drug treatment programs Palm Partners make so easily available. The 12-step program is what has given me the long-term sobriety that I was searching so desperately for. Palm Partners’ alcohol and drug treatment programs gave me the solid foundation to build my long-term sobriety.

If you want to find alcohol and drug treatment programs that can give you a lifetime of sobriety I recommend searching for those that offer outside resources through 12-step programs because this is essentially the proven method for those of us who have stayed sober for many years. You can recover from your alcoholism and addiction just like I did.

How Does Counseling Help Treat Drug Addiction?

How Does Counseling Help Treat Drug Addiction?

By: Rhea Rosier, Palm Partners Recovery Center

January 31st. 2012

Counseling helps treat drug addiction in multiple ways. Counseling is usually the core of every program that helps treat drug addiction.  Counseling helps treat drug addiction during a drug addiction program through the therapeutic approach of just “talking it out”. The trained counselors that are in charge of counseling to help treat drug addiction know that the use of drugs and alcohol were merely a symptom of the problem.

Counseling helps treat drug addiction by not only addressing the drug addiction or drinking but by also addressing the mental or behavioral disorders. These disorders can range from depression to eating disorders. A lot of times these mental health issues can cause an addict or alcoholic, struggling with drug addiction, to end up relapsing. A relapse is when an addict or alcoholic has been clean a certain amount of time and begins using again. Counseling helps treat drug addiction in this way and it is actually more than paramount in a person’s recovery.  Counseling helps treat drug addiction because a lot of the time the person struggling to stay clean is very unaware of themselves, what has caused them to use, and why they continue to use despite negative consequences. The counseling allows these same people to get an outside perspective in order to work on issues that may hold them back from achieving lifetime sobriety. Knowing everything you can about yourself and about your disease can really help in the journey that is recovery.

I’m going to be frank now and share some of my own experience. While self-knowledge can be given through counseling and this counseling can help treat drug addiction; self knowledge usually avails the true alcoholic or addict absolutely nothing.

Drug addicts and alcoholics suffer from a spiritual malady that even counseling can not help treat when it comes to their drug addiction. This spiritual malady, as I know from personal experience, can only be treated through 12-steps and then helping others. It is never a bad thing though to utilize counseling to help treat a drug addiction. Counseling is beneficial for anyone and we as alcoholics and addicts should take advantage of all the positive things that are handed to us through drug addiction programs. Counseling in order to help treat drug addiction has to consist of a lot of honesty on the alcoholic or addicts end, along with the willingness to change. Good counselors know that counseling to help treat drug addiction cant fix the problem for good, that the solution for these types of drinkers and users must have depth and weight.

For those of you who have worked a 12-step program you are hearing me use a lot of program talk right now. That is because I know what worked for me and while counseling made me a better person and that helped to treat my drug addiction; counseling infact did not keep me clean and sober every day for the past year. A spiritual solution for my spiritual malady is what has allowed me to stay sober. Counseling can help treat drug addiction in the sense of awareness though and by giving addicts and alcoholics tools on how to live life again once they stop using and drinking. It wont keep them from relapsing for good though. The only  thing I have found that will work in that respect is a 12-step program. That’s just my experience though. Take it as you will.

Drug Treatment Programs: How Recovery Works

The decision to seek addiction treatment help is invariably a wrenching one. Addiction is a crippling disease, one that limits addicts’ capacity for objective self-analysis and thus renders them exceedingly unlikely to ever seek drug treatment on their own.

Every addict needs addiction treatment if he or she wants to get better, and that healing can’t happen without help. To be a victim of drug abuse is to be stripped of all those qualities that make life worth living.  It means complete loss of hope, joy and dignity. To get better in a drug treatment program, on the other hand, is to reclaim everything that addiction has taken away.

Addiction treatment is only as effective as the drug rehabilitation professionals who administer it. This doesn’t mean that any drug treatment program will do the job.  The first one that turns up in an Internet search for “addiction treatment,” for example…is not always the right one for you.  Choose a drug treatment program carefully.  These are the people who are going to help save your life.

Successful addiction treatment is and must be the product of an unfailing devotion to individual needs on the part of addiction treatment caregivers, with a special emphasis on the particular case history of every patient who enrolls in a drug addiction rehab program. Addiction is a profoundly intimate disease, one that impacts addicts on a profoundly personal level. It follows, then, that drug treatment rehabilitation must be a profoundly personal undertaking. In the end, generic drug addiction treatment plans just aren’t good enough. Please, for your own sake, don’t make yourself learn that lesson the hard way.

Drug addiction, of course, is an overwhelming disease. To be effective, addiction treatment must offer a comprehensive solution to it. The best drug treatment programs are those that aim to foster both physical and psychological healing, thus combating the two-headed roots of addiction itself. It’s important to understand that addicts are sick both mentally and physically. Thus, drug addiction is both a physical and psychological disease, and only those individuals who get better both in spirit and in substance can expect to stay sober over the long run.

Recovery from addiction is not a one-way or top down process. Addiction treatment patients do not get better by someone waving a magic wand. They get better by working to get better, by actively engaging with their own drug recovery programs. Successful treatment for addiction is invariably a function of the effort addicts bring to bear on the process, with the obvious corollary that your drug rehab experience can only be successful if you make it successful. It won’t be easy; don’t kid yourself about that much. Effective drug treatment is and must be hard, for the simple reason that a profound sort of personal change must accompany alcohol and drug addiction rehabilitation. As difficult as such growth can be to achieve, though, successful drug treatment is more than worth the costs entailed by it.

Successful rehab, whether for drugs or alcohol may just be the most important goal any addict could ever aim for. If you’ve made it this far, you don’t need to be told what’s at stake in the drug treatment process. Now you need to make the right decision. In the end, no one can make alcohol and drug rehab work but you.

Again, you haven’t made it this far without learning the awful truth about addiction for yourself. If you’re here, reading this, you know that rehabilitation and drug recovery are necessities. Treatment for alcohol or drug addiction is the last best chance you have, really: your last opportunity to reclaim yourself as you used to be.
