Lamar Odom has reportedly entered a rehab facility for drug and alcohol abuse, according to People.

“He realized he needs help,” a source told People mag, which broke the story Wednesday

Late last week, Odom was arrested for DUI after rumors of his reported drug use surfaced. According to TMZ, he was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol on a freeway in the San Fernando Valley for driving too slowly at 3:54 a.m. on Aug. 30. Odom lost his driver’s license because he refused the chemical test, a decision that carries a one-year suspension.

On Tuesday, his alleged drug dealer told Radar Online that Odom had spent $50, 000 on drugs over the past three years. In the interview, the self-proclaimed “mystery man” said that Odom, 33, has a “huge problem and he has a very addictive personality. It is becoming worse as you can see.”

The drug dealer told Radar that the two-time NBA champ “likes to party” and that cocaine, which he prefers to freebase, is his drug of choice.

“I do not know anything about these new developments about him using pills. I do not know anything about that. The cocaine he fancies,” the man who requested his face and voice be disguised told the gossip site.

Though the focus has been on the problems in his personal life, things are not looking good for Odom’s professional life, either. It was only two seasons ago that Odom was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year with the Lakers, but after leaving L.A. in 2011, Odom’s career began to deteriorate. He averaged 6.6 points and 35.2 percent shooting with the Mavericks, who essentially kicked him off the team. He signed with the Clippers last year and averaged 4.0 points on 39.9 percent shooting.

Odom is a free agent this summer, and there is little chance that anyone will want to pick him up now.

“I would say he is beyond toxic at this point” one general manager told Sporting News. “I think that’s the end of Lamar Odom in the NBA. It’s a shame.”

Perhaps his stint in rehab will give him a chance to turn things around. Since People broke the story, several other media outlets have also confirmed that Odom has checked into a rehab facility, though details are still fuzzy. If it’s true, it is great news for Odom and his family.  And some sports outlets are speculating that if he is able to get completely clean and work hard for an entire year, someone will take a chance on him next season.

What do you think? Will Lamar Odom be able to turn things around?
