HIV positive student may have filmed himself having unprotected sex with more than 30 men he met online. Here’s what’s known so far:

  • Michael Johnson, 22, was charged with exposing his gay lover to HIV
  • Police discover 32 sex tapes showing Johnson with various other people
  • Most films were made in a room at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri,
  • 31 unidentified men are captured in the graphic tapes
  • Investigation launched after a man claimed that Johnson gave him HIV

In October of last year, Johnson, a student and former wrestler at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, was charged with exposing his sexual partners to HIV and then a month later, four more felony charges were filed against him. If convicted of knowingly transmitting HIV, Johnson faces the possibility of life in prison.

Students at Lindenwood University are shaken up by this news but are glad that Johnson is behind bars.

During their initial probe into the allegations by a former lover, police have revealed that they found 32 incriminating videos on Johnson’s laptop.

Police state that Johnson, an HIV positive student is accused of exposing his gay lover to the virus and has allegedly filmed himself having unprotected sex with other men in his university dorm room.

The detectives who are investigating Michael Johnson, 22, say they have seized a collection of videos that were secretly filmed, showing Johnson with many still-unidentified people whom he met through social media.

What’s more, the detectives on the case are fearful that Johnson could possibly have had sexual contact with more than 30 men in the found videos and who might not know they are at risk of the sexually transmitted and incurable disease. One victim has already been identified but, police are still trying to find out how many different men as well as their identities from the other tapes.

St. Charles County prosecutor Tim Lohmar told local station KMOV, “On that laptop were 32 videos that depicted different individuals engaged in sexual acts with Mr. Johnson. It’s safe to say that numerous of those videos were taken inside his dorm room; we know that because we recognize the furniture.”

The St. Charles Police Department believes that Johnson’s sex partners were unaware that he was HIV positive nor did they know that their intimate encounters were being filmed.

This isn’t an unprecedented case. Back in 1997, an HIV positive drifter from Brooklyn moved to a small town in Upstate and proceeded to have unprotected sex with numerous young women, some of whom became infected.

Nushawn J. Williams was believed to have knowingly infected a number of young women and girls in in a highly publicized case more than a decade ago.

The case received nationwide attention, which lead to debate about his accountability in spreading the potentially fatal disease. It also led to a new law that requires doctors and laboratories to report to the names of people who test positive for HIV to the state. The information is then passed on to local health officials, who interview those infected to have them list their sexual partners as well as to educate them. The case also led to discussions of starting a needle exchange program.

Police are now asking that anyone else who was a sexual partner of Johnson’s or who may have information pertinent to the investigation contact St. Charles Detective Bureau at 636-949-3330.
