Rapid Resolution Therapy with Dr. Jon Connelly at the Palm Partners Facility is a process designed and honed by Palm Partner’s own Dr. Jon Connelly. This therapy is so amazing, mental health professionals throughout the country travel to attend Dr. Connelly’s Rapid Resolution Therapy training so they are able to use the technique in their own practices. Rapid Resolution Therapy with Dr. Jon Connelly at the Palm Partners Facility is an innovative technique that quickly eliminates the negative influence from traumatic events.

Emotional and psychological trauma results from an extremely stressful or disturbing event that shatters your sense of security. People who have gone through a traumatic event feel unsafe, and this can affect the way they interact with the world around them. We find that many people who come to the Palm Partners Facility for drug and alcohol treatment have suffered trauma either before or during their addiction. Trauma can have both emotional and physical repercussions.

Drug addicts and alcoholics who have suffered trauma often find that the experiences of the past can get in the way of their recovery. They will often relive the pain of the experience over and over, and use drugs and alcohol to numb them. Also, past trauma can trap an addict or alcoholic in the “victim” role. They will use the trauma of what happened to them to excuse their using and drinking. If they don’t let go of what has happened in the past, there is a very slim chance that they will stay clean and sober in the long term.

Trauma can affect you in a number of different ways, both psychologically and physically. Common psychological symptoms of trauma include shock, anger, guilt, shame, hopelessness, confusion, and anxiety. Trauma can manifest itself physically by causing nightmares, insomnia, muscle tension, body aches, and fatigue. These symptoms can last for months to years after the trauma occurs and they can interfere with your ability to function normally.

Rapid Resolution Therapy with Dr. Jon Connelly at the Palm Partners Facility is cutting edge approach to healing using multi-level clinical hypnosis. Unlike traditional trauma resolution which requires the client to relive traumatic events, sometimes causing more traumas; Rapid Resolution Therapy with Dr. Jon Connelly at the Palm Partners Facility heals the effects of trauma quickly and painlessly.

Selecting a drug and alcohol treatment program is one of the most important and difficult decisions you will make in your lifetime. Few of us know what to look for in a quality drug and alcohol treatment program and not all drug and alcohol treatment centers are alike. Each drug and alcohol treatment program has its own options, staff qualifications, credentials, cost and effectiveness.

Alcohol and drug addiction are diseases that progress through predictable stages. It takes a trained health professional, often a doctor specializing in addiction to make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the most appropriate treatment, whether it be outpatient or inpatient drug alcohol rehab.

All drug and alcohol treatment programs offer a variety of treatment programs that meet each individual’s needs. These can range from inpatient, residential, outpatient and short-term treatment. All of these can vary together. For instance you can experience inpatient while also attaining residency or even short term treatment can also be residential.

You might find yourself asking, “Are there any holistic drug treatment centers I can attend? Where can I find an alcohol treatment center near me? or , “Are there any outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency?”. If you’re looking for an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program with residency there are plenty to choose from. Most of the time outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency consist of family groups, multiple, individual and group counseling sessions, relapse prevention and alumni events. The difference between outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency in comparison to inpatient residential programs is that outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency usually only consist of half a day of group and the rest of the day is spent continuing on with work or careers, family time etc. Outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency give the individual an opportunity to interact in a real world environment while benefiting from a peer-oriented, structured therapeutic program. Each individual is assessed regularly by clinical staff that help develop individualized treatment plans with each client attending outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency. Once this phase of treatment is complete it is recommended that each individual find support in a sober living home.

The benefits of outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency in comparison to outpatient programs without residency is that with residency the individual is in a more safe and supportive environment that will allow them to be more successful. A lot of the times the addict or alcoholic will be triggered by the work or home environment. This is why outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency are so beneficial. Outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs with residency allows an individual to continue going to work and spending time with their family while living in a safe area where they can get the support they need from the staff and their peers until they are ready to live on their own. Any outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program with residency is extremely beneficial and there are multiple treatment centers that offer it, one of those most definitely is Palm Partners.

NEWS SOURCE: NY TIMES

Recently psychiatrists and other specialists are rewriting the manual that serves as the nation’s “go to” guideline for mental illness. The reason for this rewrite is simple; to change the definition of addiction. This may seem like a simple task but it may have more far reaching consequences than most believe. Rewriting the definition of addiction in what is known as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, or DSM, could result in more individuals being diagnosed as addicts and could therefore have big impacts for health insurers and us as taxpayers.

The rewriting of the definition of addiction would increase the list of symptoms for drug and alcohol addiction while also lowering the number of symptoms needed to make a diagnosis. In addition to the change in the list of symptoms for the definition of addiction the DSM manual would also, for the first time ever, include gambling as an addiction along with a category known as” behavioral addiction-not otherwise specified” that would include diagnosis of addictions to shopping, sex, internet use and playing video games.

The DSM manual has for a long time been the arbiter for the government and medical industry. The DSM manual dictates whether insurance companies have to pay for treatment and whether or not schools will spend money for certain special-education provided services. The broader terms used in the definition of addiction, which was up for debate this past week at the association’s annual conference, intends to promote more accurate diagnoses, earlier interventions and better outcomes, the association said. “The biggest problem in all of psychiatry is untreated illness, and that has huge social costs,” said Dr. James H. Scully Jr., chief executive of the group.

The revisions to the definition of addiction in the DSM manual are scheduled to be in effect by next May and it has already instigated a wide debate of concerns. People worry that the changes to the definition of addiction would severely alter the number of individuals diagnosed as addicts. Under the new definition of addiction, individuals who may drink more than intending to and have cravings for alcohol may be considered mild addicts. According to the old definition of addiction the diagnosis has to include serious symptoms such as; missing work repeatedly, driving under the influence, or getting arrested.

The association says that the definition of addiction changes would lead to healthcare savings in the long run, some economists’ say that 20 million substance abusers could suddenly become categorized as addicts and that would cost hundreds of million dollars in extra expenses. The savings from early intervention due to the new definition of addiction will usually show up within a year, Dr. Humphreys said, and most patients with a new diagnosis would get consultations with nurses, doctors or therapists, rather than expensive prescriptions for medicines typically reserved for more severe abusers.

Although, some critics of the money savings, believe that the revision of the definition of addiction, in the new DSM manual, has been motivated by researcher’s ties to pharmaceutical companies. For instance the makers of medicines to help with drug and alcohol cravings would benefit from the new definition of addiction including cravings for alcohol or drugs.

As Dr. Humphreys said, “This represents the single biggest expansion in the quality and quantity of addiction treatment this country has seen in 40 years.” This may allow an additional 30 million people who abuse drugs or alcohol to get insurance coverage for treatment or it may end up diagnosing many people as addicts who may not necessarily have a real problem. We will have to wait and see.

Am I an Alcoholic? Simple signs to understanding addiction

By Jenny Hunt, Palm Partners Recovery Center

Many people who drink alcohol frequently ask themselves at some point “Am I an Alcoholic?” This is a question that only you can answer. There are some simple signs to understanding addiction and determining if you are an alcoholic.

1.) Does your drinking cause problems in your life? Problems caused by drinking can often be a sign of alcoholism. These problems can be legal, financial, moral, or spiritual. Problem drinking can cause discord between yourself and your loved ones. It can cause emotional instability. If drinking is causing problems in your life and you continue to drink anyway, this could be a sign of addiction.

2.) Do you make promises to yourself or others about drinking and then break them? Many alcoholics make themselves and others many promises about controlling their drinking. You may promise yourself you won’t have as many drinks when you go out this time or will stop drinking on the weekdays. You could make promises to your family that you will stop coming home drunk. Inevitably, you break these promises.

3.) Do you lie or try to hide the amount of alcohol you consume? Often an alcoholic will try to hide the amount of alcohol they consume in a given time period. They accomplish that by lying to people when they ask or hiding the evidence of drinking. This is a sign of addiction.

4.) Do you avoid social situations that don’t involve alcohol? Avoiding social situations that do not involve alcohol is common with alcoholics. Often, people who are alcoholic are unable to enjoy themselves without drinking. Many alcoholics will surround themselves with people who drink as much as they do so they can justify their drinking.

5.) Do you have a high tolerance for alcohol? One sign of addiction is the development of “tolerance” to alcohol. Alcoholics often find that, over time, they need to drink more and more to have the same effect.

6.) Do you ever use alcohol first thing in the morning to get rid of hangover symptoms or avoid the shakes? Sometimes people who are alcoholic or problem drinkers will reach a point where they will experience withdrawal symptoms when they don’t have alcohol in their body. Drinking more alcohol or taking other drugs to combat these unpleasant withdrawal symptoms is a sign of addiction.

7.) Have you ever hurt someone while drinking? Some alcoholics will lash out while drinking and hurt someone physically. Other times, alcoholics will unintentionally hurt someone while under the influence by driving drunk or being negligent.

8.) Have you ever “blacked out” or forgotten things you did while you were drunk? Binge drinking alcohol (consuming more than 4 drinks for women, and 5 for men in a single time sitting) can cause memory loss similar to amnesia. These periods of alcohol-related amnesia are generally referred to as blackouts.

9.) Do you find it difficult to have just one or two drinks? Alcoholics often experience a loss of control while drinking and find it difficult to stop drinking once they have started. The inability to stop drinking is a very common sign of addiction.

10.) Have you ever been drunk in an inappropriate setting? If you have ever consumed alcohol in an inappropriate setting like work, school, or while driving, you may be an alcoholic.

If you answered yes to one or more of these simple signs to understanding addiction, you may be an alcoholic.

Emotional and psychological trauma results from an extremely stressful or disturbing event that shatters your sense of security. People who have gone through a traumatic event feel unsafe, and this can affect the way they interact with the world around them. We find that many people who come to Palm Partners for drug and alcohol treatment have suffered trauma either before or during their addiction.

The trauma resolution program offered at Palm Partners focuses specifically on the traumatic events in one’s life. The therapists will focus on developing coping skills to help deal with past traumas. Rapid Trauma Resolution through the use of Clinical Hypnotherapy facilitates an alternative to reliving traumas in order to heal them.

The trauma resolution program offered at Palm Partners uses Rapid Trauma Resolution to help you heal from past traumas and put them behind you. Rapid Resolution Therapy is a method that rapidly and painlessly eliminates the negative effects of trauma. This very client centered, un-intrusive therapy allows individuals to live a normal life without being hindered by experiences from the past.

Dr. Connelly’s Rapid Resolution Therapy eliminates the negative emotional or behavioral influence of traumatic events, whether these experiences are remembered, repressed, or forgotten. It is not necessary to relive past events or experience any pain. The mind is cleared and enhanced. This enables the patient to move on from past events, without the added discomfort of rehashing the experience. Patients often notice a marked improvement in their attitude, focus, and general contentedness after experiencing the trauma resolution program offered at Palm Partners. It allows the patient to move forward into a positive future.
