In the News: Zac Efron ‘Clean and Sober’ After Completing Rehab

Has Zac Efron been to rehab in recent months? That was the word out Tuesday from unnamed sources, alleging to several media outlets that the “17 Again” actor had wrapped up treatment about five months ago.

Online gossips are reporting that Zac Efron quietly completed a stint in rehab earlier this year, but is clean and sober now.

Zac’s alleged struggle with drugs began while he was filming Seth Rogen‘s upcoming movie Neighbors, in which he plays the head of a fraternity house. The flick was shot in a short period of time beginning in April, and Zac, 25, reportedly missed several days of filming due to his alleged addiction, a source close to the film tells TMZ.

“It was common knowledge he was struggling with cocaine,” the source told the site.

Three other sources confirmed the claim to TMZ, adding that Zac had allegedly also been using Molly, a pure form of Ecstasy often taken at clubs and raves.

“We’re told … early this year, Zac and some friends went on a coke rager in a room at the SkyLofts at the MGM Grand in Vegas … and caused around $50,000 in damage. No word on who took care of the bill,” said TMZ.

The former star of High School Musical has not been previously known for drunken or stoned behavior, unlike other young Hollywood types such as Lindsay Lohan or Demi Lovato.

But the rehab story has not been confirmed, and representatives of Efron did not return messages. TMZ said Efron’s spokesperson declined to comment.

Efron, 25, a former teen idol now turned up-and-coming actor, was seen most recently looking sleek on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of Parkland, his forthcoming ensemble drama about the JFK assassination opening Oct. 4.

“I’m good, real good,” he said then, according to E! Online.

“He’s healthy, happy and not drinking,” the website quoted an unnamed source as saying. “He’s taking time to focus on working.”
