Last month, Miley Cyrus ended up in the hospital for more than a week and had to cancel or reschedule a number of U.S. shows. Cyrus was initially planning to kick off her Bangerz tour in Europe with shows in Amsterdam and Antwerp, Belgium, but those plans were changed because of her hospital stay.
She was out of the hospital by April 24, after which she spent two more weeks laid up in bed. But now Miley is feeling “better than ever.”
The 21-year-old, who resumed her Bangerz Tour in London Tuesday after several weeks off following a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic, which set off a flurry of rumors that the young starlet had been hospitalized due to a drug overdose.
Cyrus showed up at a press conference at O2 Arena before she went onstage, looking to set reporters straight about what really happened.
Miley Cyrus Denies Drug Overdose Rumors
“I didn’t have a drug overdose,” Cyrus said. “I took some sh*tty antibiotics that a doctor gave me for a sinus infection and I had a reaction.” She added, “There is nothing I would rather not do than lay in a bed for two weeks. It was the most miserable two weeks of my life.”
She went on to say, “I’m on this crazy vitamin rush and crazy honey and lavender. I learned a lot about taking care of yourself [during those three weeks]. I’m probably the only one on this tour who doesn’t drink or smoke before a show, as I take this really seriously. It’s almost like being an athlete being up here, because if someone was f*cked up, they definitely couldn’t do my show.”
“I’m feeling good, I’m alive—so that’s f*cking awesome,” and added, “I’m the poster child for good health.”
As if in an effort to convince reporters that the incident was as innocuous as she claimed, Cyrus then added, “I’ve been laying down for three weeks. I’m gonna go off—I’m like a star waiting to explode.” And Miley didn’t let down her fans – as promised, the star seemed to explode like a supernova on stage.
According to the Daily Mail, Miley’s show in London was pretty wild, indeed, in total classic Miley fashion with her usual lewd gestures and outrageous costumes that her fans have come to expect and love.
One fan who was present at the London show told the Mail, “[Miley] got loads of same-sex people to [make-out] in the audience and put them on camera on a giant screen and make a speech about how we should all just ‘be ourselves.’”
After her London performance, Cyrus was elated to find out that she had acquired a new celebrity fan in British pop star Lily Allen, who was outright in her support of the recently-recovered singer. Not such a bad way to get back to her tour and rally the fans.
Regarding the show, Allen tweeted “That was basically the best thing I’ve ever seen #BangerzTour #MileyCyrus.” She emphasized her excitement by punctuating her tweet with an explosion of happy emojis.

By now, everyone has heard about Miley Cyrus’ provocative VMA’s performance. Twerking onstage, miming oral sex, and grinding against co-performers and teddy bears were just a few of the things that outraged organizations like The Parents Television Council, who blasted MTV in a statement.
“MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials — while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable.”
In the world of social media, Miley’s performance has spun thousands of tweets and viral memes.
All laughing aside though, was this performance just a symptom of a bigger problem?
Her hyper-sexuality, lack of impulse control and boundaries, rapid mood swings, admitted drug use, compulsive tweeting and spending, extreme displays of irritability and argumentative behavior, difficulty sleeping, and hoarding of animals, all documented on Twitter by Miley herself for her over 13 million followers, may not be typical adolescent behaviors.
Many have defended Miley’s performance at the VMA’s, arguing that the VMA’s have been “edgy”, and citing fellow Disney channel alum Britney Spears’ VMA striptease in 2000 as proof.
But we all know how well that turned out for Britney. Her behavior became increasingly erratic. She slowly withdrew from the stage, but her exploits didn’t escape media attention. She was in and out of rehab, partying heavily, even shaving her own head.
Her 2007 VMA performance had been highly hyped and anticipated by MTV, various other media outlets, by music critics and many millions of fans and the World in general as Spears’ comeback performance, as this was Spears’ first performance since The Onyx Hotel Tour in 2004 in support of her fourth album In the Zone. Unfortunately, the disastrous performance only increased the media frenzy surrounding her. In the months following the performance, Spears went through a very public meltdown.
Is Miley following in Britney’s footsteps? Rumors of self-harm, drug abuse, and cat-fights with other celebs have been splashed across the pages of gossip magazines in recent months. Some are saying she looked high during the VMA’s. Is she just having fun destroying her child-star image? Or is something more sinister going on? Let us know what you think in the comments!

We don’t always hear about celebrities’ struggles but they do and it is the exact same things that we all struggle with. Self-harm is an issue that doesn’t usually get a lot of press in comparison to driving drunk or sex tapes but there are many celebrities who self-harm. Cutting and self-harm usually covers up an underlying emotional or psychological problem. Many people who self-harm suffer from anxiety, depression, or a previous trauma. Often, the self-harm is used to cope with negative feelings and emotions.
Here are some of the celebrities who self-harm:
Fiona Apple was a famous singer and songwriter and is probably one of the most famous celebrity self-harmers. When Fiona read her first bad review she began scratching her wrist with her fingernails. She scratched all the way up her arm and there are still some dark patches on her wrists, where she dug the deepest. Fiona says, “I have a little bit of a problem with that. It’s a common thing.” Fiona Apple was a famous singer in the 90s and has dropped out of the spotlight since that time.
Drew Barrymore is one of the most iconic actresses of our generation and she got her start into acting and self-harm after her role in E.T. She first got drunk at age nine, smoked marijuana at age ten, and snorted cocaine at age twelve. She tried to commit suicide at age thirteen by slashing her wrists with a butcher knife. After that all-time low she entered rehab, not for the first time, but that stay was successful.
Johnny Depp has a series of scars on one arm where he has cut himself with a knife on different occasions. He says, “It was really just whatever [times when he hurt himself]–good times, bad times, it didn’t matter. There was no ceremony. It wasn’t like ‘Okay, this just happened, I have to go hack a piece of my flesh off.'” Johnny explains his self-harm, “My body is a journal in a way. It’s like what sailors used to do, where every tattoo meant something, a specific time in your life when you make a mark on yourself, whether you do it yourself with a knife or with a professional tattoo artist.”
Angelina Jolie self-harmed when she was younger. She explains, “You’re young, you’re crazy, you’re in bed and you’ve got knives. So shit happens.” She no longer self-harms.
Princess Diana of Wales
Princess Diana died in August of 1997 but had quite the life before that and it involved self-harm. In a 1995 BBC television interview Diana revealed to the world that she was a self-harmer. She said that she had cut her arms and legs, explaining, “You have so much pain inside yourself that you try and hurt yourself on the outside because you want help.” “Diana: Her True Story,” a biography written on the princess said that Diana had thrown herself into a glass cabinet at Kensington palace at various times, slashed her wrists with a razor, and cut herself with the serrated edge of a lemon slicer.
Some other celebrities who self-harm include:
Megan Fox, Marilyn Manson, Demi Lovato, Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse, Russell Brand and quite recently there has been pictures of Miley Cyrus with cuts. The list of celebrities who self-harm or self-harmed in their youth and past could go on and on.
