In all honesty, being socially awkward can be crippling at times. It is important to learn how to deal with the social anxiety you feel. For me, I find it easier to just say I feel awkward or uncomfortable. A lot of my awkwardness comes from my worrying about other people’s thoughts and feelings and the future outcome of things. When I am living in the present moment, (sometimes) I tend to be much more relaxed.

Socially awkward moments happen to everyone; it’s how you make progress and move beyond such moments that make the difference between wanting to sink into the ground and simply brushing it off as a temporary hiccup. Partially created by our own fears and worries, partially created by social anticipations and how we understand these, social awkwardness can stop us from fully relating with others out of fear of being teased or even disliked by our peers.

If you’re frightened of being trapped in awkward situations or of coming across as socially awkward to others, there are some great reasons not to be. Everyone has to acquire how to deal with social humiliation at times and even if you’re more socially awkward than the normal person, there are ways to get past that, such as: realize you’re not alone, try sourcing your feelings of social awkwardness, increase your confidence, be friendly, be less concerned about what others think, focus on the positives, lighten up, learn to relax, be kind to yourself and put yourself out there!
